Festival General Quests Guide
Posted on 17. Oct, 2009 by Goldenstar in Events, Festival Guides
| This guide is to assist with the general quests that appear with each festival in LOTRO. These quests are not really tied with a particular festival and are there just as little extras to pick up goodies for your character.See the links to the right to find the guide about the quests available during a specific festival. Note that this list will be expanded as more guides are created. |
|
The generic festival quests you will find center around five things.
- The Inn League
- Ale Association
- Horse Races
- Dancing Quests
- Travelling Farmer
This guide will be split up into these three separate headings to discuss things to do and what is rewarded for each.
THE INN LEAGUE
There are a total of 11 repeatable quests available that all gain reputation with The Inn League. These quests are centered around alcohol and having your character drink alcohol so if you are a parent of a young and impressionable LOTRO player, you may want to think about whether or not you allow your kids to participate. It really is all quite harmless but as a parent, I understand having to be sensitive to issues like this and wanted to mention it.
Getting Started
The Inn League has been around for years but if this is your first romp with these folks, you’ll first need to complete the starter quest to become a member.
This quest is found at the Shire Party Tree and given by Ailward Chubb. It is basically a pub crawl that will take you through several taverns throughout the Shire.
You have 7 stops total (including the start at the Party Tree) and must drink 6 mugs. Each stop starts a timer making it a race that gets more and more difficult as you go. It becomes more difficult do to your character getting drunk and their vision really blurring. I thought it was very fun though!
I have done this quest on several characters and while having a mount does make this a bit less stressful, I have been able to complete this on foot as well. The quest is level 5 so you can do this quest right away since you will likely be over level 5 when you land out of the introduction and into Eriador.
The first time you complete this quest you will gain 10,000 reputation and the Inn League Member title. This will open up the other reputation quests for you!
This quest is repeatable once a day (resets at midnight EST). Repeating this quest only awards 500 reputation.
Gaining Reputation
There are 11 quests (separate from the pub crawl) that will gain you reputation. They all are quests that are asking you to fetch and return with a specific beverage. The NPC will tell you which beverage they want and where you can go to purchase it. These quests are repeatable and have a 1 hour time limit to complete.
With patch 3.1.1 you can now easily get these quests from an Inn League Tavern Keep in the festival locations. All these quests grant +Inn League reputation and – Ale Association reputation.
Rewards
There are 4 deeds available from The Inn League.
- Inn League Member
You earn this after completing the initial pub crawl event. - Senior Inn League Member
If you complete 5 of the reputation quests you will earn this deed, 1,200 additional reputation and the title Senior Inn League Member. - Inn League Notable
If you complete all 11 of the reputation quests and you will earn this deed, 1,200 additional reputation and the title Inn League Notable. This title will replace your Senior Inn League Member title. - Inn League Challenge
There are 23 beers, ales and wines throughout Eriador to earn this deed and the title Inn League Sage of Fine Spirits. The lorebook entry lists all the drinks you must find and if you click on the item, will list the NPCs that sell that particular beverage.
Once Friendly with The Inn League, you will have access to a special room in the Bird and Baby where you can pick up some decorations for your home using festival tokens. The name of the Inn League Taxidermist is Alric Banks and the Inn League Trader is Frago Sandheaver.
- Ancient Tome – Once used you earn the /dance_jig emote
- Black Bear with League Hat
- Brown Bear with Pie and Mug
- Frost-Antler Head with Pipe
- White Wolf with Mug
There is also the Hedge Maze quest available for gaining rep but this is only available during the Spring Festival.
ALE ASSOCIATION
Added in Spring Festival 2010 was the Ale Association. The Ale Association (AA) and Inn League (IL) are rivals so doing quests for the AA will grant negative reputation with the IL and vice versa. Just as a general tip you may want one character work on AA rep and an alt work on IL.
The Ale Association is a group of Dwarves lead by Jonar in the Tavern in Thorin’s Hall. Like the IL, they have their own private bar entrance that is granted with Acquaintance standing.
The Ale Association’s barter currency of Badge of Dishonour can be traded in with the dwarfs standing next to Jónar in the underground tavern. There is an acquaintance and a kindred vendor. At acquaintance with the AA you can turn in your badges for festival tokens. 1 badge = 3 tokens. At kindred there are more options including cosmetic clothing and furniture.
Tainted Mug
Quest Giver: Jónar (in the underground tavern)
Quest Level: 10+
Rewards: 90 copper, +900 Reputation with the AA, -500 Reputation with IL, 1 Badge of Dishonour
Repeatable: Daily
Jonar is a disgruntled dwarf and wants you to steal the beer recipes of the Inn League. The Inn League recipes can be found throughout the Shire. Pay special attention to the Hobbit’s reactions to your theft, it’s quite amusing.
- in Stock outside the Golden Perch (under a tree with a drunk)
- in the Great Smials of Tuckborough (go through the door into the library on the left and it’s around the corner on a table)
- in the Brockenborings Watch Office (on the table in front of you as you walk in)
- in Waymeet. (on a table at 32.6S, 72.8W)
The Draught Drought
Quest Giver: Jónar (in the underground tavern)
Quest Level: 10+
Rewards: 90 copper, +900 Reputation with the AA, -500 Reputation with IL, 1 Badge of Dishonour
Repeatable: Daily
You are to find and drain Inn League Kegs. Inn League kegs can be found throughout the Shire.
- The Bird and Baby in Michel Delving (all the way in the far back room)
- the Party Tree in Hobbiton
- The Green Dragon in Bywater
- The Floating Log in Frogmorton
- Woodhall
- Budgeford
- The Golden Perch in Stock.
An Irritating Initiation
Quest Giver: Jónar (in the underground tavern)
Quest Level: 10+
Rewards: 90 copper, +900 Reputation with the AA, -500 Reputation with IL, 1 Badge of Dishonour
Repeatable: Daily
Dwarves have joined the Inn League and it’s your job to convince them to quit.
- Oli is only a few feet from Jonar
- Kópur (19.38S, 100.54W) in Nogolond south of Thorin’s Gate
- Grímar (20.28S, 96.75W) can be found in Gondomon
- Herluf (27.87S, 75.97W) is in Needlehole (in the Shire)
An Inn League Disaster
Quest Giver: Jónar (in the underground tavern)
Quest Level: 10+
Rewards: +900 Reputation with the AA, -500 Reputation with IL, 1 Badge of Dishonour
Repeatable: Daily
The Inn League is hosting a tasting outside of Thorin’s Gate to draw more members. Speak to the little hobbit Laurel Sackville outside in the courtyard and then hide behind the kegs until she is distracted (she’ll start walking around).
She will wander back. Don’t let her see you or you fail! If you do fail just return to Jonar and he’ll start you going again.
The Ale Association Challenge
Quest Giver: Andre (in the underground tavern)
Quest Level: 10+
Rewards: +1200 AA rep for completion. +10,000 reputation on first completion and title “Ale Association Member”
Repeatable: Daily
Andre wants you to go to the Prancing Pony in Bree. This is the AA’s version of the Pub Crawl the IL does in the Shire but much quicker to complete in my opinion. Your stops are as follows:
- Prancing Pony Inn Start with Bjarni
- Combe-Gate in Bree-town, talk to Daggeir
- Staddle just outside of Bree-town, talk to Finn
- Jasmine’s Garden in Bree-town, speak with Gerthar
- Stone Quarter in Bree-town, talk to Haddur
Jonar’s Special Brew
Quest Giver: Jónar (in the underground tavern)
Quest Level: 10+
Rewards: +900 Reputation with the AA, -500 Reputation with IL, 1 Badge of Dishonour
Repeatable: Daily
Jonar is wanting to make some special brew and asks you to collect the ingredients.
The Ale Association also has it’s own list of running quests for reputation like the Inn League does. Each of these quests give +AA reputation and -IL reputation. These quests can be obtained from the Ale Association Tavern Keep found at all festival locations.

HORSE RACES
The festival race is no longer a race against your peers. It is now a solo race against the clock but it has a few twists in it to be sure. The rules are to run through each gate without falling off before time runs out. It’s sort of similar to the level 35 riding skill quest but it has it’s own challenges. This quest is for level 30+. You do not need to own a horse already, the limit is just level based.
There is a quest that can be obtained from the starting areas called “To the Horse-Races” that just point you to the Race-Masters.
The race can be entered at any of the following Race-Masters.
- Sally Threshing (24.9S, 52.0W Breeland)
- Carl Proudfoot (35.3S, 73.1W Shire)
The Race
Running through the mud slows you down although I have to say that trying to run across the precarious planks is difficult when you’re feeling rushed! It’s worth it to not hit the mud as it will slow your mount down by 30%. Crossing along the planks successfully provides a speed boost. It may take some practice before you can win this one so don’t get discouraged if you fail at first.
Losing the race will prevent you from of attempting again for an hour. The two horse races are independent of each other so if you fail in the Shire, you can still go to Bree and attempt the course there.
Winning will grant you a choice of tokens or a Race Token for that particular festival (Summer, Spring, etc). You will need the race token if you wish to purchase yourself the Horse or Pony otherwise feel free to take the extra tokens to buy more stuff!
Even after you have successfully completed the race and purchased your new mount, you can come back and do it daily for extra tokens.
Buying your Horse or Pony
To get your mount take the Race Token, 12 festival tokens and 1 Document of Mount Ownership to Will Peartree at Hengstacer Farms in Bree-land. Barter these items for your new mount.
The Document of Mount Ownership is purchased from Will Peartree. If this is your first mount, this document will cost you 4 gold (same as buying a normal mount for the first time). If you already own a mount (founders or bree starter mount doesn’t count) you will have a discount and will buy this document for 1.6 gold.
Will Peartree is a festival only vendor and will not be around once the festival ends! You will not be able to buy other festival horses, Will only sells that festival’s mount. See our post onFestival Mount Changes for more information.
The Volume 3 Book 1 patch brought with it the change that you will now get credit for passing the gate for going UNDER the bridge on the racetrack. Before you had to go through the lower gate if you fell off the bridge no matter where you landed.
DANCING QUESTS
These quests will grant you new emote commands to eight new dances for your character. Each of the four races has two dances for you to learn. They will be found in the festival area where all the other festival goings-on are happening. Those are:
- Bree Festival Grounds (24.7S, 51.6W Bree-land)
- Thorin’s Hall (13.48S, 103.2W Thorin’s Gate) – in the underground Tavern
- Duillond (24.6S, 93.1W Ered Luin)
- Shire Party Tree (29.85S, 71.48W Shire)
You are looking for a NPC that has the title “Dance Leader” over their head. They shouldn’t be difficult to find. They are typically right in the middle of the festival grounds. Every twenty minutes the Dance Leader will start a dance lesson.
Important things to know about doing this quest:
- The quest will become available 5 minutes before the lesson begins. The leader will have no quest ring over his head otherwise.
- You must have the quest before the lessons starts! Once the dance leader starts the quest, there is no picking it up.
- Once you have the quest, you must stay around the dance leader. Leaving the dance area will cause the quest to fail!
- You must have the Dance Leader targeted during the lesson or your steps won’t count.
The NPC will announce when the dance is to being and will walk to the dance area. They will give a series of dance moves to perform and you must perform them quickly, like within a few seconds. If you miss a step you fail the lesson (and the quest).
The lesson is broken up into 4 parts. Between parts the Dance Leader will announce a break. The Dance Leader will call out a dance move to do. The commands you use is /dance1, dance2, or /dance3. The quest will go in this order.
- /dance1
- Break
- /dance2, /dance3
- Break
- /dance2, /dance2, /dance3
- Break
- /dance3, /dance1, /dance3
The last part seems to go much faster than the rest, at least to me, so you must be prepared. Some people make shortcuts or aliases to help them. I did all these dances by pre-typing: /dance and then waiting for them to say 1, 2 or 3 and adding it to the end. However, you wish to do it is the right way if it means you complete the quest!
When finished, the Dance Leader will return to their original location and allow you to turn in the quest and select which of the two dances you wish to learn first. Your character will be granted access to a new emote slash command.
| Dances with Men | /dance_man /dance_man2 |
| Dances with Dwarves | /dance_dwarf /dance_dwarf2 |
| Dances with Elves | /dance_elf /dance_elf2 |
| Dances with Hobbits | /dance_hobbit /dance_hobbit2 |
If you fail the quest, you can try again but there will be a cool down before you can attempt the quest again. I’ve heard that if you don’t have either of the special dances from that Dance Leader, you can try again at the next lesson with no cool down.
TRAVELLING FARMER
Amabel Redfern, the travelling farmer, will appear with the summer and fall festival and is found in the Shire. You must be a farmer to get these quests.
This starts with the Summer Festival where Amabel will give you the quest “Planting the Seeds for Harvest”. She will hand you some special seeds that she wants you to plant in her nearby field.
Then you wait until the Fall Festival where Amabel will return to the Shire and will have the quest “Harvesting the Crop”. This quest simply has you talk to Amabel who will tell you how well your seeds grew. As a reward you will receive a Black Mushroom Pot, a housing decoration.
