From the Book: Musical Cracker

In “From the Book” Goldenstar discusses the significance of in-game people, places and things that were part of the book.
Back in September there was a quest available for you to celebrate Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday. The reward at the end of this quest was a choice of a Flute Musical Cracker or a Dulcimer Musical Cracker.
Now at the time I griped and complained a bit about these items claiming them to be pretty dull rewards. The item made a quick squawk of noise and has a ten-minute cool down. I didn’t understand their significance (apparently I didn’t read the tool tip) and was pretty ho-hum about my gift.
However, since I started reading the books again I go to the part about Bilbo’s birthday and realize that Turbine didn’t make these little items up. It really is from the book! Musical Crackers were gifts Bilbo had specially ordered from Dale for the Hobbit children attending his birthday party. You can read about the children using them during Bilbo’s speech.
The past times I’ve read this, I probably skimmed right over this tiny little description. It wasn’t until I played LOTRO and obtained one for myself did this item really stood out as something exciting! I have to say it has warmed me to the idea of owning my own musical cracker. I had even considered getting rid of it for more valuable bag space. I’m very glad I didn’t actually do it.
Have a question on why something in-game is the way it is? Have a in-game item that was in the book but not really mentioned in the movies? Send your questions and suggestions to Goldenstar!
