From the Book: Uncle Elrond

In “From the Book” Goldenstar discusses the significance of in-game people, places and things that were part of the book.
Did you know that Elrond and Aragorn are related? It’s true! Elrond is the great-great-great-great-great…(you might want to go make a sandwich)…-great-great-great-great-great-uncle of Aragorn!
Elrond’s parents, Eärendil and Elwing, were half-elven and therefore, so are their twin boys, Elros and Elrond. At the end of the first age, the Valar gave Elrond and Elros a choice to belong to either their elven or human half. Elrond chose to be counted with the elves like his parents but Elros chose mankind.
Elros & his people were granted a longer life span than ordinary mortals and Elros himself ruled as the first king of Númenor for 410 years! It is from Elros’ line that Aragorn is born making him family with Elrond in a very distant sort of way.
Here’s a picture of the family tree starting with the parents of Elrond and his twin brother, Elros. You can click on it to see a larger view. Rather than put absolutely every descendant, some were sort of grouped together so that this chart wouldn’t spread on for eternity.
So Aragorn and Arwen are sort of cousins but it’s ok if they marry seeing that they are probably cousins 100’s of times removed.
Have a question on why something in-game is the way it is? Have a in-game item that was in the book but not really mentioned in the movies? Send your questions and suggestions to Goldenstar!
