Any Questions for Patience & Sapience
Posted on 17. Nov, 2009 by Goldenstar in LotRO News, Turbine
We are fortunate enough to have Patience and Sapience from Turbine joining us for an interview this Wednesday (as in 2 days from now). I know we just had a Dev Chat last week where we got some questions answered but if you have any questions you would like for us to ask, please let us know!
You can post your questions in the comments, email us, or send them via twitter. We are very excited for this opportunity!

We love what Orion is doing with the Lone-lands! And we’ve seen mention of possible future improvements in the west and east halves of the North Downs.
Can either of you speak to that? Are there definitely plans for a ND revamp?
P.S. — Please let Orion know if he ever visits Windfola, we will be happy to offer him tasty carrot cake and fruit tarts.

Since we know that they are really the same person, it would be interesting to know how “they” decide whether to speak as Patience or Sapience? Is it a good cop/bad cop thing?

1.) I was confused with Sapience stating he is not Patience in the recent dev chat already. I guess Patience is the senior community manager, but it would be nice if they could explain who is actually who and how they got the idea to pick such supposedly telling names.
2.) Guillermo Del Toro is filming “The Hobbit” and promised they will show where Gandalf went to before he returned to the Fellowship in “The Two Towers”. Gandalf also mysteriously disappears several times in “The Hobbit”. Rumor wants to know he went to Dol Guldur.
But my question is actually if Turbine plans to include “The Hobbit” (supposedly released in late 2011) related content in future expansions, or if they are even allowed to do this at all.

I’d like to know about GMs and devs in game. Do they play on live servers often? Do they have godlike powers? Can they go invisible? Materialize first age items from thin air? This is an aspect of the game we really don’t get much of a glimpse into.
Also, perhaps talk about the “hands-off” approach that Turbine has towards RP. There is no official RP server, no live scripted events, and no special appearances of celebrities (Elrond, the fellowship, etc). So what is the official stand on devs/GMs intervening on live servers, both from a policing aspect and a RP/event aspect.

I would ask how long until any major changes are made to the housing system – allowing for kin neighborhoods, crafting in neighborhoods, maybe a neighborhood trading house (like an auction house, but trading items for other items, not currency). I think LOTRO does a great job with player housing and would love to see some updates, new features there.
Would also like to ask for more/any special/live events. Really enjoy the silly shortterm events like the pirate day thing and the Baggins B-day events. Would love to see more of that, and things like Creeps allowed out of the Ettenmoors for a Day and allowed to ravage through certain zones (say Trollshaws and up).

We had someone submit questions in the same thought line as these (about housing and kin systems as well as live events). We maybe able to combine your thoughts with theirs for a more well rounded question. Thank you for submitting your thoughts!

I’m also wondering whether Turbine is considering adding services like ordering a 3D figure of your character (like some other games do http://www.figureprints.com/) or similar things, like the player-created trading cards highlighted on the forums.

Thanks poinky! We had someone else submit a the same question about ordering LOTRO swag and items like figure prints. We’ll be sure to ask them for you!

The Adventurer’s Pack seemed to me a slight of hand to recoup the dev and database costs of marginally profitable “quality of life” feature improvements — shared storage and extra character slots. Has Turbine considered paid opt-in to unlock “useless” or “unsexy” features like extra cosmetic outfit tabs, multiple object mail ability, cosmetically-equipped weapons, or additional housing decor slots?
I don’t it’s likely to get anything more than “not at this time,” but I’ve wondered about this for months. With the success of the DDO store, I’m sure someone over there is pondering ways to monetize LotRO without offending the players.
Oh. And as long as I’m dreaming, I’d like to be able to paint the ceiling of my house as well as the walls and floor. k, thx.
