Parts Held Back from Mirkwood

Posted on 03. Dec, 2009 by Goldenstar in General

It seems for the most part that the Siege of Mirkwood launch went very smoothly. Apart from Landroval and Brandywine having server issues, there have been very few complaints I’ve heard. Perhaps part of this is due to some parts that were planned to be released being purposely held back. There are at least two items that are not in the current release that I’ve read about.

Skirmish: Trouble in Tuckburough
This skirmish was available to be played in beta but it was not released with the expansion. From what I read, it appeared to be a bit of a favorite amongst the beta players as everyone is looking for it.

According to jwbarry from the forums:

Tuckborough has been held back due to some blocking issues with the boss fight. It will come back online at some point in the future with those bugs resolved.

The skirmish hasn’t been removed or a beta only event. It’s just back in the shop for repairs. Hopefully it’ll be released for all to enjoy soon!

The Shire

Inspired Greatness
Inspired Greatness is in the game, just not for all the parts Orion discussed in his post. The original plan was for this mechanic to be implemented for Volume 1 books 1 and 2. Currently in game this buff is only available in book 2. [source]

Orion posts in the forums:

Solutions to more difficult problems have been found and we should have an option that addresses solo, duos, trios, quads and fellows in place for all Volume I Books in place for instances and landscape – landscape will be far trickier than instances, sadly.

The revamp for the North Downs will be delayed while this is worked on. He also mentions that there will be a blog post about this in a week or so with more information.

He also adds:

For those panicking about how overpowered it is right now. We know. We’ve made adjustments. It’s much milder in testing and if I am given leave to do so, I will be making the adjustment at the earliest possible convenience.

Who’s panicking about being overpowered? If you’re working on Volume 1 Book 2 you might want to do those instances with the overpowered Inspired Greatness buff now. Not that I expect it to be nerfed to oblivion but why not do it when its a tad easier, right?

Lonelands

In my opinion, I say good for Turbine for knowing when to hold a piece back. Just because they were discussed and expected for release doesn’t mean that broken pieces of poo should be published for the players. It will cause nothing but frustration. While I’m sure some people may be disappointed these items are missing, disappointment is better than rage that you can’t play due to bugs!

Book 1 is completely soloable, honestly, so I don’t really miss that buff… It definitely will help for Book 2, though.

The only quest I’ve had trouble soloing in Book 1 is Chapter 11: Othrongroth. As long as you’re careful, even that is OK :)

Wasn’t there a UI upgrade that I read about that would remove the 5 inventory slots and allow you to put other UI things there? I thought for sure I read a dev diary on this…

My mistake–looks like it is there, as described in this dev diary:

    They say:
To access this new feature go to the Options Panel and select “UI Settings”, or click the new Customize Toolbar Slots button just to the left of the Auto-Attack button (highlighted in the screenshot below).

Ah I’ll have to go in and turn on that option as well. Good find :)
