Merric and I are both level 64 at this point and closing in on that final level of 65. I was thinking about this memorable occasion and I want to make my final ding special. Not just “look I killed another boar and now I’m 65”. Something neat or different to make my max level a story worth telling.
Merric and I have done something like this in previous game where we held a special item that would grant experience when used. We used it in the middle of a main town to reach max level at the same time in a completely friendly area. We had kinmates and newer players (who were wondering how we just dinged in town) as our witnesses. It was fun!
Not really familiar with Mirkwood past what I’ve already seen, I’m not certain what I would do. Honestly, I’m not sure if there anything special I could do. I’m willing to level up until there is just a sliver of needed experience left for the special event.
So I’m asking you, dear readers. Can you think of any task, special quest, or memorable mob that I could defeat to get the little extra experience to reach the ultimate status of level 65?

Cool idea, Goldenstar. I dinged 65 in the middle of a 3-man skirmish and didn’t even notice it until about 5 minutes later.
As for what you guys could do, do you have any particular monster you just absolutely hate? For example, I had a friend in LOTRO who considered wargs to be her archenemies, so she made sure she was killing a warg when she dinged 50 (which was the level cap at the time). Or you could pick a cool exploration deed in Mirkwood/Moria/Lorien and try to ding upon completion of the deed. Anyway, best of luck, I’m sure you’ll come up with something cool!

How about an hidden exploration deed? There is the ridge-racer deed in Eregion, which gave a whopping 16 XP (done it at 50, don’t know if these kinds of deeds grey out).
Or the one in Emyn Lum, Master of Ascent. I just can’t remember if (and how much) XP can be gained with that one.

Hmmmm… I’ll have to look those up. What is a ridge-racer deed? Something like that where you are doing something silly and unexpected is definitely what I’m hoping for.

not “a”, but “the” ridge racer” deed (and title). Find your way to the tower upon Hollin Hill overlooking northern Eregion.
January 21, 2010 at 3:31 am
Oh, I’ll definitely check that out!
I got the hidden deed for climbing both towers in Emyn Lum last week or the week before (gave me the tile `Master Ascender’). That was lots of fun to do. And if I have the right tower in Eregion in mind, I’ve tried to reach that one before… but concluded it was not possible. I will have to check it out again!

HA! I KNEW!!!! That it was possible to get up the second tower in Emyn Lûm…… I’ve been crawling around up on those catwalks for a long time now trying to get up the second one.
I finally checked out a video tonight of someone actually doing it – they got to the point where I was like “must have done it wrong” and then I did the *facepalm* when I saw what I’d been missing.

Hmm…I like Phebe’s idea of picking out a particularly nasty enemy and finishing them off (either for a quest finish or just to kill it) to ding 65. I too am 64, about halfway to 65, and would love to ding 65 with you guys.
Maybe that big spider in the Mirk-eves…?
January 20, 2010 at 9:32 am
That could be super fun! I’d love to do something as a fellowship!

Me and my mate (Warden/Burgular) went to Carn Dum for the last sip of XP. You get 1XP/Mob. We were lonely – but it was a lot of fun.

Maybe there’s a way to gain experience while doing something for the Inn League. In other words, ding 65 while chugging a tankard of beer and getting sloshed

I like to do the ‘final’ dings on books quests and things like that.
Book 9 culminates in a series of 3 (or 4?) skirmishes where you storm Dol Guldor. Doing it solo would be fine, but it would probably be even more cool to run them with a small or full fellowship — the thing scales, and at solo level, the defenders in Dol Guldur feel a little… sparse.
So maybe that? Storm the Necromancers Tower with a big group? I’d set up a sign-up for it if you guys are interested.
(Or you can too, of course.)

I like this idea a lot too. Then I could ding saving Mirkwood with my kinnies. I’ll have to get a lot closer to 65 before going so don’t plan anything just yet.
January 21, 2010 at 6:55 am
But, you have to BE 65 in order to do those skirmishes…
Hey, I know. Ding on the XP reward from “Death from Below.”
January 21, 2010 at 7:35 am
You only have to be 65 to START the skirmish. You can join in if you are below. And of course the mobs will be at least one level above yours.

I like Doyce’s idea, depending on how close you can get to 65 without going over, you could even do it as a skirmish raid. You’ll only get 1 or 2 xp per kill so you’d have to be super close.
Another thing you could do is pull a mob into one of central hubs (Emyn Lum, Gathburz, etc.) with a bunch of friends there and kill the mob with everyone watching, that way they will all see you ding the cap!
January 20, 2010 at 2:59 pm
On my Loremaster, I dinged 65 with the Emyn Lum explorer deed. It’s nice because there are quite often people up there at the top when you get it, and there’s a really nice view.
January 20, 2010 at 6:18 pm
If you can ding via a chicken quest, that would be funny!
January 21, 2010 at 6:19 am
LOL! I hadn’t even thought of the chicken quests! I haven’t done them on Goldenstar yet either!

How about conquering one of the least frequented encounters in LotRO? Do you know that guy called Ferndúr in Angmar? He´s so desperate – maybe you should give him a try.
January 22, 2010 at 5:18 am
I agree with Myself
))
I managed to defeat Ferndúr, the Master of Imlad Balchorth, only recently. It’s one of the hardest quests in Angmar. Although most of us were 65 already, we were happy to take him on in a raid. The ~10 Elite-Master spirits summoned by Ferndúr make it a still challenging quest.
And, as Myself already mentioned, many players do not even know he exists. Half of players in the raid said they were not aware that such an opponent existes in the middle of Angmar.
January 22, 2010 at 7:04 am
I had never heard of this guy either. I’ll have to look him up. Thanks guys!
January 21, 2010 at 6:37 pm
I think you should celebrate by either cannonballing down the well in crossroads, or taking a flying leap of the Bridge of Khazad-dum. Oh, I’d have to be there to witness of course.

What Pie-related quests have you not yet done?
