Last week’s poll had some serious discussion in that it didn’t really include classes like loremasters who don’t fit in such clear roles. This week’s poll was suggested by Dreadhed to try to make up for this oversight.
This week’s poll is: Which fellowship support role is most difficult?

Well my answer is skewed since I have a high level LM and Minstrel, but not RK or Captain. I voted minstrel since I think attacking, cycling ballad tiers, healing, judiciously fearing/feigning death/removing corruptions (melee skill!), all while managing threat and power, is a tough job to handle.

Burg should at least be a contender.

This was a little hard as I look at support in 2 ways – doing it and then doing it well. All of these can be helpful in a group, but taking that next step and really using all the tools available to help the fellowship out I would say is equally hard for all of them.
I said captain for the reason that their group role drastically changes depending on the group while the others are relatively similar, or a choice between two.

I have at least a level 45 in each of the above classes, and have grouped extensively with my loremaster, which I find to be, by far, the hardest the play effectively. There is always, always something that you need to be doing that you have forgotten what it is because there are so many things that need doing.
Minstrel? always grinding same buttons, then bursts of action when someone’s about to die.

I play both LM and Minstrel. While there are more things for a LM to do (heal, CC, debuff, damage, manage pet) those things tend to be less critical than what a minstrel is juggling. As a minstrel, you are doing the most critical role (healing) and a number of other roles (Tiering up ballads, removing corruptions, managing aggro, aiding DPS, CC, interrupting, buffing) I think LMs and Minstrels have some of the largest toolkits of any class. But it boils down to a bad LM is less likely to wipe a group than a bad Minstrel.

P.S. If you are grinding the same buttons, you are doing it wrong.

I think this is a great topic, thanks Goldenstar. My two mains (if that is possible) are an LM and a Minnie, and I have to agree with what Harp and Aillas said. The LM has a lot going on for sure, but the their role is just not as critically important as that of a minnie. I am definately better as an LM than a minnie and that may have something to do with it. But Harp is right in stating that a bad LM is less likley to wipe a group than a bad minnie.
As I said last week I don’t know if the job of a minstrel is harder per se. But it is definately more stressful, as their is more responsibility to worry about. When I burn a CD with my LM it is either Lightning Storm or Ents, maybe one of my personal heals, not something that is going to make or break the group. But if a minnie burns the FH too early or late…lookout.
I really don’t have much experience with CPT, BRG, or RK so cannot speak to their relative difficulties. All I really know about CPTs is that I just love grouping with them, brgs too. No offense RKs but CPTs are awesome. Best three man set up I have rolled so far is 2 LMs and a CPT. Absolutely destroyed SH. And in Dungeons a burg is sure handy.

I have both, a lvl 65 captain (who is my main) and a lvl 63 loremaster. My burglar is level 17, so I can’t say much about him and I have no experience playing a minstrel or runekeeper.
I voted captain because a captain has so many tasks to do at once in a fellowship. Of course you have to keep everybody’s buffs up. But besides that a lot of positioning comes into play as well. When your group heal is available, you should make sure you are in the middle of the group as much as possible so that everybody gains morale. Or if this is not possible, make sure you’re close to the person who needs morale most. The same is true for the fear removal. Often as a captain you’ll have to throw in heals to support the main healer. And you’ll have to make sure to get aggro from the healer if necessary.
If a group almost wipes you’ll be on your toes as a captain: pop last stand and in harms way to take 50% of group damage on you. Use shield of the dunedain on your healer to make sure the healer gets through. Revive those who have fallen.
I’ve often saved a fellowships ass like this, mostly it is the healer who gets a `thank you for saving us!’ because other FS members didn’t notice all the hard work their captain did to pull them through
.
Of course a loremasters role isn’t easy either. However the loremasters role feels more clear to me. Make sure you do your crowd control (which admitted is difficult enough), make sure to remove wounds and diseases, make sure FS members have enough power and make sure to debuff enemies. A lot of tasks as well, but they are all clearly defined and a loremaster has the advantage he can do all of them ranged.
