I am married with three kids, young boys and a little girl the same age as Merric and Goldenstar’s Baby Hobbit. I am an economist by day and an avid gamer by night. My wife still doesn’t “get” my attraction to gaming, but I think I starting to get through to her/wear her down. I have been playing PC games since back to the days of the old TI-99 computers. My first MMO was really Guild Wars, very shortly after release.
I loved the idea of MMORPGs but not the idea of paying a subscription, which was why Guild Wars first caught my notice. I played on a few Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2 persistent world servers which showed me my love for RP. I even had the opportunity to DM for my last server until I got burned out. After that I decided to give SWG a try.
Being an avid Star Wars fan I was impressed, though it seemed very different from when I tried the trial back before the CU and NGE. Still it was fun and I played around there for a while after finally deciding to try the subscription thing. A friend of mine had access to LOTRO beta and asked if I wanted to try it. I declined as I was passionately playing through Oblivion at the time. Boy was turning down that chance a mistake.
After getting tired of SWG I decided to try something new, and also being a fan of LOTR, I decided to give LOTRO a shot and signed up for a lifetime membership 2 weeks into the first free month.
I particularly enjoy the group content in LOTRO. The dungeons and raid are not too hard, but still challenging. I was lucky enough to find a good kinship on the first try and am grateful they still let me hang around.
My main was a Lore-master when I first started and he is the only character I still have from my beginning days. Right now my main is a warden. They are easily the most enjoyable class to play for me. It’s all about strategy, and anticipating the flow of the fight, much like it is playing a Lore-master. I
am grateful to be contributing to A Casual Stroll to Mordor and hope those reading my entries will find something in them that they can use to enhance their enjoyment and love for this great game.
