About Orchida

ScreenShot00020 I’ve played video games for as long as I can remember and my focus has always been Role-Playing games (RPG). I first gave massive multi-player online (MMO) games a try in the early 2000s, but always walked away unimpressed. Strangely, after playing the .hack series on the playstation 2 (which is a simulated MMO experience, completely offline) I decided to give it another go. I started up World of Warcraft and that opened the floodgates for me. Since then I’ve played a number of different MMOs, enjoying each game’s unique offering from raiding, to player vs player, and even some role-playing (though I’m terrible at it). When I caught wind of Lord of the Rings Online I immediately signed up for the beta and was lucky enough to get in. I was captivated by the visuals and story, having loved the Tolkien books and the cartoon movies I grew up with. This game was it!

Of course, life has a way of interrupting you and I’ve been away from LOTRO for nearly two years. I returned in the in the spring of 2010 – in full force – committed to immersing myself into the community. And what a community this game has! I’ve been so thrilled at how welcoming everyone is, both in game and out! It is one of the most robust, active, and friendly communities I’ve ever been a part of.

Currently I play a Burglar (Orchida) on Firefoot. This is my main character and has still not hit level cap. Typically I play a healer class in MMOs, but this time I wanted to try something different. I’d never been very good with thieves and rogues in the past, but I loved the introduction with the Burglar so much that once the game went live I stuck with it. Being able to sneak around has really helped out with all the screenshots I snap for the photo comparison posts. I am looking forward to trying a Minstrel again (did i mention I love playing healer and support classes?) once Orchida gets a chance to explore Moria and Mirkwood.

Outside of gaming I work full-time and take part-time classes at night (which is why I level so slowly). I also build my own desktop machines and enjoy messing around with other gadgets, like hackintoshes and android tablets. I dabble a bit in photography and am improving my skills each time I set out to take a round of photos for a new LOTRO photo comparison post.

I’m really grateful to Merric and Goldenstar for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the Casual Stroll to Mordor team. The entire CSTM team has been incredibly welcoming and friendly. Just another testament to the nature of the LOTRO community!

Feel free to contact me in game, via email, or on twitter. I’m always up for a friendly conversation on pretty much anything from video games to other general nerdiness. In game I’m mostly on Firefoot (Orchida) and occasionally on Landorval (Kassabelle).
