Tim “Raskolnikov” Lang has put out the first of the upcoming Developer Diaries covering the class changes in the upcoming Rise of Isengard expansion. This one is all about the Captain class!

A Captain begins a journal of his new adventures. Glory and valour lie ahead, forgotten memories behind. And tasks, lots and lots of tasks.

Today, Raskolnikov posted an update for the Captain class and where their upcoming changes in the Rise of Isengard currently stand. As always, everything is subject to change.

In another “Monday 2fer”, Orion has posted changes to the Lore-master and Captain classes. These classes will be headed up by Raskolnikov, but as stated in an earlier blog post, Orion will be “The Mouth of Raskolnikov”.

The Captain is my first go-to character. Why? Sure, it may be slower than some character classes when you start off in the lower levels, but like all classes it really comes into its own as it levels. And as a solo player, while using a Captain I find myself surviving situations where other classes would die.

A while back, we put out a call for challenges that our captains could duo together. After a few weeks of being distracted by raiding in Ost Dunhoth, we’ve finally gotten around to attempting our first challenge!

A collaborative project that we want to do is to accept challenges from the CSTM readership. The kind of challenges we’re looking to take on should be difficult in-game feats but not so difficult as to be completely impossible.

With the captain I had no troubles running in the 30s. Therefore, the increased difficulty in the 40s smacked me in the face. This was a signal that it was time to really learn how to play this class.

Psychobabble asks: I was wondering whether you thought a captain could main heal the grand stairs?

I’ve been hot on the Minstrel ever since I discovered how effective it was at utilizing its offensive skills. I was seriously impressed and “in love” with the character playstyle. Although I was warned by Goldenstar and others that this could possibly change, I don’t think I was quite prepared with how frustratingly difficult things could actually become.

Despite discussing my burnout on the last couple of episodes (which is starting to fade), I started off with a pretty optimistic point of view with my Captain. What can I say about it other than I love this class (just not as much as Elborigorn).

Today, we will look at the captain. My captain is Pinecrest, who recently reached level 32. I currently run skirmishes with Arrowroot, my archer soldier, and Sycamore, my Herald of Hope.
