Boing Boing reported on a group called “Fellowship of the Strings” that are recording Lord of the Rings inspired songs that I thought our audience may be interested in.

This week’s poll was suggested by Bootsy of Laurelin in an email we read in Episode 97. Bootsy has nearly 600 ABC files stored and ready to play and is curious how many ABC files everyone else has.

Today’s post we are featuring the group The Green Hill Music Society of Landroval. We sent these questions to the bandleader Falibrand Marshwader to answer!

Last time we edited a midi with the goal of creating a solo abc file. This time we will take that midi and run it through the LOTRO midi player conversion program.

My goal for this installment is to create a simple solo abc for lute. For that purpose I’ve chosen a midi for the song The Dangling Conversation by Paul Simon.

In this post, I will list the instruments available, how mentoring works and where minstrels get these skills so we can spread the joy of /music across Middle-earth!

One of the most enjoyable and certainly most unique features of LOTRO is the Player Music System. It allows players to produce music in game through both manual, free-form play as well as pre-made abc music files.

In this episode, we take a look at the Songbook plugin by Chiran. This plugin creates an in-game interface that allows you to choose which song file (installed separately) you’d like to play, which part you’d like to play in the song, synchronizes group play, and includes a readycheck alias; which truly makes playing music in the game much easier!

One of the most under valued and over looked systems available in LOTRO is the music system. We have all seen people or groups just standing around strumming away on their instruments.

Our thanks go out again to Heiko for sharing these YouTube videos of Colin John Rudd who has put some music to Tolkien’s lyrics like Galenswerd is doing with his Lonely Mountain Band project. However, while Lonely Mountain Band is 100% Tolkien work, Colin John Rudd has a mix of music types in his extensive postings on YouTube.

In this episode of CStM we have a chat with Galenswerd (aka John) from the Celtic-Rock band, Fathom. John was the first Featured Player on the Turbine Community blog. He is a musician in real life working on a Tolkien inspired project entitled “The Lonely Mountain Band”. He is also a kinship leader of the same name on Landroval. We discuss music, LOTRO and kinships!
